Also fair WARNING this will include SPOILERS for most of the movies in the MCU including Infinity War so if you haven’t seen them don’t read on.
#10 – Celestial Star Lord Fights Back (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2)
First up we have the moment Peter musters up his strength and use his Celestial powers to fight back against Ego. This moment is done amazingly! After watching all the other Guardians slowly getting getting killed by Ego the music cuts out and we cut to some flashbacks of Peter’s life and his family. Then The Chain by Fleetwood Mac starts to swell and Peter busts out of the energy bonds and charges at Ego breaking everyone else free. The thing that really sells this scene for me is the song The Chain it’s just perfectly used and when it starts to play it’s awesome!
#9 – Steve Jumps on Grenade (Captain America The First Avenger)
I personally love this scene because it demonstrates perfectly just who Steve Rodgers is what he will eventually become. Fearless and doesn’t even hesitate to put his life on the line to save others. This was all even before he got the super soldier serum. This always made me feel good and motivates me to try and be a better person.
#8 – The Elevator Fight (Captain America The Winter Soldier)
Just as the last scene demonstrated how courageous and selfless Steve is, the elevator fight demonstrates how bad ass Captain America is! The way this scene is setup is superb. It starts with Rumlow and a few other “Shield” agents entering the elevator then each floor more and more men start entering until it’s full of huge guys and Cap realizes what’s happening and politely asks “Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?” That’s confidence right there! Then an awesome fight sequence happens capped off by him kick flipping his shield up to him! Also he jumps out the elevator from 20+ stories up!
#7 – Thor vs Iron Man (The Avengers)
I never get tired of watching this scene. There’s really not much more to it than it’s really fun watching two heroes go at it for the first time ever! I remember seeing this the first time in the theater and just awe struck because this was THE moment that we got that real crossover feel. It was just an amazing moment to see Iron Man and freaking Thor fighting each other in the same movie! Today it may not seem like such a big deal but back then it was huge! I loved the fight choreography and the humor that’s spliced into it too.
#6 – Ultron Prime Defeated (Avengers Age of Ultron)
As convoluted the story of Age of Ultron was, the movie wasn’t short on epic moments but one that stands out to me the most is when Ultron Prime is finally defeated after taking on an army of Ultron Bots. Vision, Iron Man, and Thor all blast their beams at Ultron melting away his Vibranium armor. The best thing about this moment to me is the fact the way the shot is composed it looks like it was ripped straight out of the comic books with all three of them lined up firing away. Not to mention the classic Avengers theme song playing at just the right moment is enough to send chills!
#5 – C’mon Spider-Man! (Spider-Man Homecoming)
It’s no secret Spider-Man is my favorite hero but this scene drives home who he is and what kind of hero he is. Peter is trapped under a ton of debris when he starts to panic and you quickly remember that he’s still just a 15 year old kid. Then he reminds himself of what it means to be Spider-Man and musters all his strength and more to lift the debris off him. What really sells this scene is Tom Holland’s acting, it’s amazing to see him go from sheer panicked kid to, self reflection, to sheer will and determination. This is why he’s my favorite superhero!
#4 The Mk III Debut in Gulmira (Iron Man)
It’s weird I have this scene so high but this is honestly the moment I fell in love with Iron Man and by extension the MCU as a whole. This entire sequence is so damn cool! this is like 2/3 of the way through the movie and we finally get to see the full Iron Man suit in action and he uses it to go save his savior Yin Sen’s home town from the terrorists. The suit looks amazing for being the first movie that’s 10 years old this suit looks better than some of the suits that would follow later. Not only that, I love the detail of the sound design from the replusors charging to the motorized sound his armor makes when he’s moving it really feels like the suit has weight to it. So much detail and care went into this scene! Also the no look walk away from an explosion is a nice touch!
#3 – Avengers Assemble (The Avengers)
You know why this scene is amazing! The Avengers coming together for the first time with Alan Silvestri’s amazing Avengers theme song roaring as the camera pans around them all it’s just epic. This is not only a historic and influential moment for the MCU but for movies in general, this one scene changed the landscape of Hollywood forever for better or worse everyone else is now obsessed with trying to make shared movie universes. This is the definition of epic!!!
#2 The Airport Battle (Captain America Civil War)
This is more an entire sequence than a moment. I’m talking about the entire 13+ minute battle at the airport between Team Iron Man and Team Cap. I could probably write an entire post on this scene alone but let me just say this is one of the most epic things put to screen! So many heroes in one scene it’s like a little kid’s dream come true just amazingly put together and fun!
#1 Thor to the Rescue (Avengers Infinity War)
This may be a bit of recency bias but this moment has to be my favorite moment in the MCU thus far! Everything in the movie up to this point has seemed so dire and desperate with how overwhelmingly outmatched the Avengers have been then you see everyone start to get overwhelmed by Thanos’s Outriders. Just when you think all hope is lost BOOM! A Bifrost portal shoots down and standing there like bad asses is Thor, Rocket and Groot to save the day with the Avengers theme blaring! Ahh! If this scene doesn’t give you chills and cause you to cheer I don’t know what will!
So there you have it my favorite MCU moments. Obviously there are way more great moments even I left out a many good ones, like Steve vs Winter Soldier hand to hand combat or the finale Civil War fight, but maybe I’ll save those for a future post. Hope you enjoyed reading and letting me geek out. Let me know in the comments what some of your favorite moments are. Here’s hoping to Marvel Studios continuing to put out great movies for another 10 years!
